Veteran Software Executive Alfredo Perez, Jr. Joins Convio to Head National Sales Team

Former Business Development and Sales Vice President for Industry Leaders Sees Huge Need in Nonprofit Sector for Relationship Management Software

(Austin, TX - July 31, 2001) Convio — the leading developer of Internet-based constituent relationship management software for nonprofit and member-supported organizations — today announced that seasoned enterprise software sales executive, Alfredo Perez, Jr., has joined the company to lead its expanding sales force.

Perez brings to Convio more than two decades of regional and national technology experience, with an exclusive focus since the mid-1990s on enterprise software sales.  Prior to joining Convio, Perez held Vice President-level management positions in business development and sales for Selectica, Sterling Software and BMC Software, developing relationships with partners and selling directly to a broad range of companies, including Fortune 200 firms.

"Nonprofits are an extremely important part of our economy and society, and they need technology solutions that are just as robust as those that are commonplace in today's for-profit world," said Perez.  "Like for-profit businesses, nonprofits must build and sustain lasting relationships with their 'customers,' or constituents.  Although widely used in the for-profit sector, powerful relationship management software has not been an option for nonprofit and member-supported groups because it's been costly to buy, deploy and use, plus did not directly address the unique needs of nonprofit organizations.  Convio has removed those barriers and is truly opening up a new era for nonprofits when it comes to tapping the power of the Internet."

Perez plans to expand Convio's sales staff to keep pace with growing interest in the company's products.  Convio's clients include regional and national organizations representing many segments of the nonprofit sector, among them, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, National Foundation for Cancer Research, KUT-FM (public radio), HoustonPBS, Austin Children's Museum and more.

"Alfredo is proving to be a tremendous asset to Convio," said Vinay Bhagat, Convio's founder and CEO. "He is very focused on creating a strong customer experience and he has a unique ability to really understand a customer's needs and translate them into solutions that make sense for them. His career success has been driven by his ability to recruit strong people who focus on the customer experience."

Prior to joining Convio, Perez was Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Initiatives at San Jose-based Selectica, which provides a software suite to sell complex goods and services over intranets and the Internet.  Before Selectica, Perez was Vice President of Sales for Dallas-based Sterling Software, Inc. where he was responsible for the North American sales and technical organization of the Network Management Division.

Also, Perez previously was the Federal Business Development Manager for Houston-based BMC Software, charged with developing and implementing the strategic planning for establishing BMC as the leader for application and database management in the Department of Defense.
