Convio Ranks No. 1 on Austin Business Journal's List of Top 25 Fastest-Growing Private Companies

Winners Chosen Based On Revenue Growth Over Last Three Years; Third Award for Convio So Far in 2004

AUSTIN, TEXAS (Sept. 30, 2004) — Convio, Inc. — the leading provider of software and services to help nonprofits use the Internet for fundraising, marketing and advocacy — is the fastest-growing Central Texas company with annual sales under $10 million, according to the Austin Business Journal.

The regional business weekly has ranked Convio No. 1 on its 2004 list of the area’s "Top 25 Fastest-Growing Companies" with annual sales of $500,000 but less than $10 million. The list is based on revenue growth during the last three years. Criteria include demonstrating annual net revenue in each of the past three fiscal years; achieving net revenue of more than $500,000 in fiscal 2001; and being an independent, privately held corporation with headquarters in the Central Texas area. According to the Austin Business Journal, Convio’s revenue grew 988 percent between 2001 and 2003.

Convio’s rate of growth exceeds that of the larger, fast-growing companies in the area. The Austin Business Journal also has ranked 25 companies with more than $10 million in annual revenues. Of all 50 companies in both categories, Convio is growing the fastest, according to the journal.

"The Austin Business Journal ranking is yet another testament to the fact that Convio has identified and is meeting the huge need of the nonprofit sector for proven online tools to manage constituent relationships,” said Bill Wood, General Partner, Silverton Partners. “It’s also a testament to the strength of the company’s management team and staff, particularly strength in executing consistently on a solid business strategy and plan."

The Austin Business Journal award is the latest in a string of awards that Convio has earned in 2004 for outstanding business performance. Earlier this year, Convio was named to Red Herring’s "100 Top Private Companies" list (www.redherring.com/rh100) and also the Forbes list of fast-growing private technology companies. (http://www.convio.com/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=2600978&news_iv_ctrl=1164). Additionally, Convio and its founder, Vinay Bhagat, were chosen as a finalist for Politics Online’s 2004 list of the "Top 10 Changing The World Of Internet & Politics."

"Central Texas is home to some of today’s best, brightest and most successful companies," said Gene Austin, CEO of Convio, Inc. “Winning this award in such a competitive environment is both a big honor and a sign that we’re building a world class business with a bright future.”

Central Texas Company Pioneers New Market

Since its founding in 1999, Convio has helped a broad spectrum of nonprofit organizations leverage the Internet to manage constituent relationships to drive fundraising, advocacy and other forms of mission-critical participation and support. The volume of Convio’s business has been accelerating steadily over the last few years. In the first half of 2004 alone, Convio helped nonprofits generate $37 million online — almost as much as the $40 million online total for all clients in 2003. The 2003 total was more than a ten-fold increase compared with 2002.

Nonprofit organizations make up a significant part of the U.S. economy: $1.3 trillion (total of operating expenditures).
