HEP and Convio Partnership Helps Nonprofits, Universities and Colleges Optimize Email Lists, Accelerate Online Relationship Building

HEP Joins Convio's Solutions Partner Program; Provides Renowned Services for Organizations to Easily Develop, Augment and Update Email Files

AUSTIN, TEXAS (June 23, 2004) -- Convio, Inc. today announced a partnership with HEP Development Services that will help nonprofit organizations, including higher education institutions, develop and maintain accurate email lists -- key for "jump starting" or accelerating any online program aimed at building strong constituent relationships and generating support. Additionally, HEP's online gift matching services will work with Convio's online fundraising solution so a donor can quickly verify whether his or her employer will match an online gift.

Inaccurate or missing constituent data, such as incorrect email addresses, costs nonprofits, universities, colleges and alumni organizations millions of dollars annually in lost gift opportunities. This is especially true for email-based fundraising campaigns. Convio estimates that, on average, nonprofit organizations lack valid email addresses for more than 80 percent of their total donors.  In today's wired world, organizations need a database of accurate email addresses to efficiently communicate with and engage constituents so they will provide support for and participate in mission-critical activities.

Convio is the top provider of software and services that help nonprofits and higher education institutions use the Internet for developing strong constituent relationships that drive fundraising, marketing, advocacy and other forms of support. HEP Development Services -- a leader in the higher education space -- provides services that will help Convio clients build and update their email address files and allow their constituents to quickly determine if online gifts will be matched.

HEP's services include:

  • eFind, which enables an organization to create or expand an email database by using physical addresses to find email addresses, with match rates typically ranging from 20 to 35 percent;
  • eCOA, which identifies and corrects incorrect email addresses, with a typical correction rate of 15 to 25 percent; and
  • eMatch, which online donors use to quickly determine if their employers will match their online gifts.

"A successful ePhilanthropy strategy is powered by a solid email database of deliverable addresses," said Steve Hafner, HEP Development Services Founder and CEO. "The partnership between HEP and Convio works well because HEP is a data-driven company and Convio is a software platform, and a platform with good data yields better results."

A Strong Solution for Higher Education

The HEP and Convio partnership is especially relevant for higher education institutions including universities and colleges as well as their alumni associations and foundations. Many schools have an email address collection function in place within an alumni Web site, but typically do not have valid email addresses for more than 85 percent of all alumni.

HEP provides email addresses for existing postal records, usually stored in a school's fundraising database. Email communication allows more frequent contact with alumni at a significantly lower cost than direct mail and telemarketing. HEP's services, combined with Convio's offering specifically for the higher education sector, Convio Alumni Center, empowers organizations to extend email communications to a larger percentage of alumni and other constituencies.

HEP Development Services is the latest company to join Convio's expanding Solutions Partner Program. The program, designed to offer choice to nonprofits without sacrificing integration, allows Convio to combine its solutions for developing constituent relationships and driving results online with complementary, best-in-class products from other market leaders. Convio clients benefit because, through a single vendor, they receive all the functionality to be successful on the Internet.

"Convio is committed to bringing companies on as partners that provide products and services which dovetail with our offering, so our clients have the most advanced and complete technology available," said Gene Austin, CEO, Convio, Inc.  "HEP is a leader in the data enhancement services space -- especially in the higher education arena -- so this is an important and strategic relationship for us and our clients."
